The Elderly Ministry was revamped in October 2017. The Objectives of the revamped Elderly Ministry is to:
• Identify all members of Ikoyi Baptist Church that fall within the catchment area of focus
• Parameters shall be for persons of the age of 70 years and above
• Identify needs of persons within this grade and see how we could meet them as the case may be
• Attention to be on a person by person basis, based on capabilities
• Could only be extended to parents who live with members of Ikoyi Baptist Church and come to our church, otherwise could spiral out of control
• While not solely a caregiver group, to see how we could be of assistance to anyone within the age limit showing signs if need within our scope
The nature of Interactions will include:
• Personal visits
• Phone calls as the case may be
• Felicitation cards during birthdays, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Anniversaries or festivals as the case may be
The Visitation plan is as follows:
• Visit participants as regularly as possible. As regularly as once in two months as cases arise (or minimum of four visits in a quarter)
• As much as possible every member shall propose to join in the visits (the more the merrier)
• Logistic of visitation: in groups, by members
• Where it is impossible to get everyone, then members living closest to the person shall arrange and visit, on behalf of the group
• There shall however be a minimum of two members during each visits on behalf of others.
• Visits shall equally have been discussed within the group upfront, and all necessary arrangements discussed and agreed upon to forestall inconsistency in nature and quality of visits to persons
• When visiting, as much as possible, let the guest do the talking whilst we try to proffer solutions to the best of our abilities
• We could help with basic chores as the case may be, in the course of the visits and depending on who visited
