The Sunday School Department is one of the units under the Discipleship PDV. The Department’s major objective is the provision of a sustainable platform for church members to grow richly in the daily reading, studying, understanding, application and sharing of the Word of God. This is expected to be evidenced by the quantity and quality of church members who are firmly rooted in the Word and are able and available to effectively teach others.

The IBC Sunday School community has continued to evolve and constitutes an integral and active component of our local church ministry.

Composition and Numerical Strength:

The Department operates under the Discipleship PDV and is coordinated by a team of three elected Church Officers (the Sunday School Superintendent and two Assistant Superintendents) and also has an Advisory Committee which comprises of the three elected church officers, the immediate past Sunday School Superintendent and the Education minister who superintends over all units under the PDV.

Focus / Function of Sunday School Ministry:

•             Organise weekly lesson preview sessions for teachers

•             Organise weekly Sunday School Classes for church members

•             Organise training for intending and existing Sunday School Teachers

•             Adapt and produce environmentally contextual weekly Sunday School Lessons from standard resources (Standard lesson Commentary and Nigerian Baptist Convention Sunday School Lesson Books)

Activities of the Ministry in the year 2017:

•             Produced 2 editions (each covering 6 months) of IBC Sunday School Lesson manuals

•             Different classes undertook initiatives that reflected the practical application of lessons taught

•             Rotation of teachers across classes
